Dagwood And Blondie: Entertaining Americans For More Than 75 Years.
Dagwood and Blondie are two characters from the famous American comic strip called “Blondie”. Their first public appearance was in September 1930 and ever since then their antics have been a source of non-stop entertainment for not only Americans but English speaking people all over the world.

Dagwood And Blondie
Dagwood originally inherited a fortune, but when he married Blondie, which his family considered to be below his social standing, they disowned him. His love for Blondie therefore cost him dearly. He then started working at a construction company called J. C. Dithers & Company, where his boss is the very unpopular Mr J C Dithers.
Dagwood has a couple of things that he loves, including his kids, naps on the sofa, food and long baths. He also has quite a number of things he hates: Door-to-door salesmen, store salespeople, and persistent telemarketers. He also doesn’t like running into the mailman when he gets home every day and he hates being left behind by the carpool. Not to mention, of course, his intense dislike of his boss, Mr Dithers.
The series proved so popular that over the years it spread into other media as well. It became a star attraction in many daily newspapers. Radio shows were dedicated to the couple, and a whole series of films called Blondie were produced between 1938 and 1950.
During the period 1968-69 a TV series was produced in which Will Hutchins played Dagwood. Dagwood and his wife make several cameo appearance in other television series after that, including Garfield Gets Real and Mother Goose and Grimm.

Not many people (outside America anyway) are probably aware that the term “dagwood sandwich” had its origins in Dagwood’s love for a layered sandwich topped with an olive on a toothpick. This type of sandwich is now eaten all over the world, often by people having no idea where the name originated.
Dagwood and Blondie have so far appeared in more than 2000 newspapers around the world, and been translated into 35 languages.
