The Story Of Fred And Wilma Flinstone

Fred, Vilma and Pebbles Flinstone.

Fred, Vilma and Pebbles Flinstone.

The story of Fred and Wilma Flinstone is an intriguing tale of love and deceit. Frederick Joseph Flinstone was born many years ago in the fictional Stone Age. His place of residence was a town called Bedrock. Although an animated character, he brought a great deal of joy and laughter to television audiences in the 1960s. Not a great deal of information has been available on his early life. This may be due to the fact that they kept few records in the Stone Age.

Wilma Pebble Slaghoople was born around the same time as Fred. Information has been sketchy. However it is believed that Fred and Wilma met a long time ago. They both worked at a fancy hotel. Fred and his best friend, Barney Rubble, worked as bell hops. Wilma and her friend Betty were cigarette girls.

For those of you unfamiliar with the job, cigarette girls were popular, back in the day. Most of the time, pretty young girls were used to attract the attention of customers. They walked around with a display of smoking items. It fit on them with two suspender type of straps. Hotel and restaurant patrons could get smokes, matches, and lighters. This was when smoking was in vogue.

Fred was immediately infatuated by the lovely Wilma. Barney was obviously smitten with Betty. The girls were not love struck, but they found the boys to be cute. Fred and Barney decided to lie to the girls and tell them they were wealthy guests. The girls thought they would do the same.

This went well for a while. One day the girls were dancing with the boys on the hotel dance floor. The hotel owner caught them. He openly announced that he did not pay bell hops to dance with cigarette girls. The boys were shocked that the girls would lie to them. The girls could not believe that the boys could be so deceitful.

Then they realized that they had a great deal in common. They were all dishonest, when it came to love. This was the start of beautiful relationships. They all got married and lived in the suburbs. Everything worked out very well for Fred and Wilma Flinstone. For some strange reason, their lives mirrored another famous couple by the name of Ralph and Alice Kramden. Barney and Betty also bore an eerie resemblance to Trixie and Ed Norton.

The Ozzie And Harriett Nelson Story

The Ozzie and Harriett Nelson story started many years ago. Peggy Lou Snyder was born in Des Moines, Iowa. It was July 19, 1909. Ozzie Nelson was born in Jersey City in 1906. Ozzie grew up to excel in many sports. He was on the boxing team and football team at Rutgers University. When he was introduced to the ukulele, his life changed. He started out with Frank Leithner and this grew into a quartet. The group entertained at many local events. Ozzie went on to sing, play the banjo and the saxophone.

Ozzie also attended law school. While there, he paid for his tuition with his orchestra. He also coached football. He later became a famous and well known band leader. It was the era of the big band.

By 1930, Ozzie had a radio show. This was before television and radio was the big entertainment medium. An unusual incident got Ozzie his big break in the band business. A New York newspaper ran a reader poll. Everyone was to vote for their favorite radio orchestra. In those days, news vendors only had to return the front sections of the papers to get credit for unsold copies.

Ozzie’s manager realized that all of the ballots were in the back pages of the newspaper. He struck a deal to obtain hundreds of unsold copies, along with the voting ballots. When it was all over, Ozzie Nelson was the most popular radio orchestra band. This gave Ozzie the notoriety that he needed, for his rise to the top.

Peggy Lou grew up to be a beauty queen and a vaudeville performer. She was raised in an entertainment atmosphere. Singing also came natural to the young beauty. She changed her name to Harriet Hillard. When she had the chance to audition for Ozzie Nelson’s band, she was impressive. Female band vocalists were a novelty then. She was only the second one to be used, this way.

Ozzie saw something in her that he instantly liked. It did not take long for them to become close. A few years later, they became man and wife. The rest of the story is history. Ozzie and Harriett Nelson became one of the most famous iconic families in the world.

Barney Rubble is the best friend of Fred Flintstone. While Barney doesn’t really create any of the schemes he is often in he does not seem to put up much resistance. There are many things that Barney seems to like to do. These will include playing golf, bowling, playing pool and tinkering in Fred’s garage. In addition to these things Barney is also a talented drummer and pianist.

Betty and Barney Rubble have always been a married couple in the TV show. Betty and Barney actually met in a club where Betty was working. The Timeless Appeal Of John Smith And Pocahontas

Anyone who has seen the movie New World, and also the Disney animated renditions of the famous couple of John Smith and Pocahontas, no doubt will agree that this is a love story that is set in a historical context. Apart from other on-screen renditions of East meets West and foreigner falls in love with local beauty storylines, the basic idea behind the relationship of John and Pocahontas has a universal tone to it that most people like.

Jhon Smith and Pocahontas

This universal tone is basically that there are no barriers to true love, whether it be cultural, distance or even racial. The setting in which the Pocahontas story is set in is rife with social barriers against such a love match or love affair. A white man falling in love with a colored or even red woman was unheard of and even looked down upon.

Fortunately these days this kind of prejudice does not exist, and if it does then they are more likely the exception rather than the rule. The main value of the relationship between John Smith and Pocahontas was based on mutual love and respect. However, whenever the subject of a local woman having a foreign lover comes into the picture of society today, people most certainly always suspect some sense of exploitation based either on gender or economic issues.

What appeals in this relationship story is that the love they have is pure and gives one a puppy dog swooning feeling especially if one is of the younger generation. The romance of the wild and carefree lass with a swashbuckling but morally upright hero is always appealing. In fact this is almost the staple of all love stories where both characters are of noble and upright character.

What can be learned from the Pocahontas love story is that love will always have some kind of obstacle to test it. Whether the test be based on greed, financial reasons or plain cultural biases, it will almost always happen in any relationship. Whether or not the relationship survives these trials is the true test of the pureness of the love that is supposedly existing between two people.

And as history and the story shows, John and Pocahontas did survive their trials. Thus it is a happy ending for two people that really love each other. We could all be so lucky if it were to happen to us, but for those that are still waiting, the story of John and his Native American beauty is something we can treasure and look forward to happening to us someday.
