There are so many classic couples around the world. Their love lives are sometimes not what you would expect them to be. One good example is the relationship of George and Laura Bush.

George Bush Junior was already famous for being the son of the 41st United States President. However, back then Bush was an alcoholic and had accounts of alcohol abuse. He was even arrested on one occasion for DUI. At his hearing, he pleaded guilty and had his license suspended. He was also asked to pay a $150 fine. He was also said to have been using illegal drugs but has never made any comment on it and has refused to answer any questions on the subject.

Around this time, Laura Lane Welch was a simple school teacher and librarian. She suffered a tragic accident early in her life prior to meeting George. The tragedy left her emotional and doubting her faith for several years. The reason for this is that the car accident she was in killed a friend that was very dear to her.

1977 was the year when these two were unknowingly introduced. The event was a backyard barbecue hosted by John and Jan O’Neill in which they were both invited. After three months of courtship, George proposed to Laura and they tied the knot on November of the very same year. It was a very touching relationship. Laura even had a compromise when she said yes. She said she will marry him as long as she is not tasked to make any campaign speech. Later, she could not deny the request of her husband and consented to give speeches for him anyway.

Laura was also good for George. His previous alcoholism was tremendously reduced and he says it is all thanks to his wife. He says Laura put up with him quite well and this eventually rubbed off on him. Bush gave up alcohol in 1986.
