Barack Obama & Michelle Obama

Barack Obama, born on August 4th, 1961 is the forty-fourth president of the United States and the first ever person with African American heritage to hold the position of one of the most influential people in the world. Assuming office on January 20th, 2009, he was previously a United States senator from January 4th, 2005 to November 16th, 2008. Although having spent much of his life in Illinois, he was actually born in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Obama graduated at Columbia University and the Harvard Law School. His activities before becoming a senator included being a community organizer in the city of Chicago before he graduated and once he graduated he became a civil rights attorney and for twelve years he taught constitutional law in the University of Chicago.

During his short time in office so far he is notable for a number of achievements such as his working towards the final closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention centre and the reversing of a directive that disallowed federal funds to be sent to oversees abortion clinics. He has also directed plans to withdraw the remaining troops in Iraq over the coming years.

Barack Obama is married to the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama with whom he has two daughters. Michelle Obama grew up in the city of Chicago, graduating from Harvard Law School and Princeton University. She went on to work in a local law firm and this is where she met her future husband.

Her relationship with Barack Obama began with a business meeting over lunch and a consequent community organisation. They eventually married in October of 1992 and had two daughters; Malia Ann who was born in 1998 and Sasha who was born in 2001. They went on to form the successful presidential campaign of 2008. Michelle’s role was partly fund raising and promotion throughout.
