Elvis And Priscilla: A Legend Continues
Elvis Presley was already a rising rock star and had signed a contract for the movie King Creole when he was drafted in 1957. Elvis and Priscilla Beaulieu met in 1959 when he was stationed in Germany. She was fourteen and he was ten years older. She moved to Graceland her senior year but the two did not marry until May 1, 1967. They had a daughter the following year in February whom they named Lisa Marie.
Books have been written and a movie made about one of the most legendary love stories of all time. Most agree that Elvis and Priscilla fell in love in Germany in a way that Priscilla called kismet but there are a couple of disputed versions that state differently. Still, no matter which version is true, there can be no denying that these two people did love each other and had a relationship unlike any that either had or would have with another person again. To this day to think of one brings the other to mind in a love story that continues to be legendary.
They traveled frequently between Graceland and Palm Springs, California and decided to buy a house in the Los Angeles area. During this time Priscilla spent a lot of time at the new house and then took up karate where she met Mike Stone. She told Elvis about her new relationship and the two separated then divorced in October, 1972. As they walked out of the courthouse they appeared hand in hand and their friendship and daughter were a priority for both.
Their relationship lasted eighteen years although the marriage only lasted a little over five years. Soulmates in a friendship that began eight years before they married and continued until Elvis’ death in 1977, they shared custody of their only child, Lisa Marie. In this we can find a good role model; two divorced parents sharing and looking after their child together.
